Who is Jakarundi?

The Jakarundi is a mythical creature rarely ever seen (not to be confused with jaguarundi or jakalope though it has something in common with both).

The studio is founded by Lara Lucretia and is open to collaborators and has a history of community projects. Artwork shown on this site is sometimes created by visiting artists, mentees, collaborators, or community groups. The reason for working under the studio name instead of individually is to promote collaborative work! And keep heading in the direction of more hands creating together.

A bit about Lara (the artist who started up Jakarundi Graphics): gardening and teaching are a big part of what she does. Her background is a mix of British/Danish/Russian/Italian and there have been artists and musicians among her ancestors, and always a great appreciation or love of art among the non-artists family members.

Lara doesn’t have formal arts training: her formation has mostly taken place in autonomous art spaces that operate with grassroots support, business models that prioritize reciprocity, political consciousness, and huge doses of innovation and thinking outside the box. A lot of her approach to making art is influenced by the Beehive Design Collective and Taller Gráfica de Lucha; Jakarundi follows in their values.

Jakarundi does custom illustration, custom printmaking, and also offers people (especially those who don’t consider themselves “artists”!) to come and learn and print in the studio. And anything in between (e.g. we burn your silkscreen for you to print). Public art and murals are also on the horizon…

Stay tuned!
